BETWEEN GOD AND MAMMON
"You can not serve God and Mammon", says the Bible ( Mathew 6:24 ).This adage has stood the test of time. In his practical life a person usually vacillates in his choice between good and evil. He shows his proclivity towards a life of comfort and pleasure which only wealth can provide. No matter how honest and good a person may be ,he is not given much importance when he is poor. On the contrary a wealthy man, though he has amassed his vast wealth by dishonest means , is given priority in every walk of life. A person's goodness is impaired by selfishness and greed. He is tempted by Satan to opt for the slippery road. If he is resolute to pursue a moral life as commanded by God he wins in the battle of life. Otherwise, he falls into an abyss of sin by hankering after wealth. A wealthy man serves the God of Wealth( Mammon ) rather than God. His selfishness makes him treat his own people with contempt and cruelty. In the novel Dr. Faust , the protagonist Dr. Faust even stooped so low as to sell his soul to Mephistopheles , the Devil in return for worldly riches. Can one's vast wealth and social position ,his pride save his soul? The answer is an emphatic no. So, the choice is clear. Let us choose God as our Saviour who will save our souls.
